Jumpers lead the way at first SCIAC Multi Dual

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Two jumpers took the top spot to lead the Chapman University track and field teams at the first SCIAC Multi Dual of the season. Sophomore Josie Chan and senior Mitchell Bouldin each won an event but both Panther teams fell in the dual scoring.

Bouldin set a new personal-best in the long jump to capture the event win overall. His leap of 6.97 meters (22-feet, 10.5-inches) was the longest of the day and was just one-tenth of a meter short of the school record. Chan captured the event title in the triple jump with a mark of 10.69 meters (35-feet, 1-inch).

Freshman Lauren Miller had a couple of top-3 finishes in the shot put and the discus. She tossed the discus 31.7 meters (104-feet) to take second overall in the event. Freshman Miranda Safar took fourth in the event. In the shot put, Miller had a throw of 10.8 meters (35-feet, 5.25-inches) to take third.

On the men's side, sophomore Cedric Cole took fifth in the discus with a throw of 37.15 meters (121-feet, 10-inches). Freshman Eric Ortiz took sixth in the discus.

In the running events, sophomore Mia Hernandez and senior Michiko Yee led the Panthers in the 1500 meter run. Hernandez came in 11th with a 5:11.72 and Yee came in right behind her in 12th with a 5:12.40.

Juniors Kayvan Aminzadeh and Ronald Washington finished together in the 100 meter dash. Aminzadeh took eighth overall with an 11.48 and Washington came in ninth. Freshman Drake Butler had a solid run in the 1500m with a 4:11.59 to take 11th.

The men's team scored against Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the first SCIAC Multi Dual but fell 139-11 and 143-11, respectively. The women's team dropped its dual against Redlands 131-18 and fell to CMS 139-14.

Chapman heads to the Ben Brown Invitational next Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.
