Butler and Yee set personal records at Ben Brown Invite

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University track team had a strong showing this past weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational held at CSU Fullerton. Freshman Drake Butler and senior Michiko Yee each ran for career bests.

Butler set his new personal record in the 5000 meter, running a 15:55.50. The rookie also came in first place in the event. Yee set her own career best in the 5000 meter run when she posted a time of 19:21.13. The senior shattered her previous record by over one minute, earning a 10th place finish in the event.

The men's team had a strong showing in the throwing events. Freshman Eric Ortiz threw 38.67 meters (126.87 feet) in discuss, earning 15th place. Sophomore Cedric Cole landed in ninth place in shotput with a throw of 12.29 meters (40.32 feet).

Sophomore Nicolette Cokas and freshman Sheridan Scifres led the women's side, both placing very high in their respective events. Cokas came in third place in the one mile, posting a time of 5:46.00. Scifres ran the 800 meter in 2:37.99, coming in fourth place.

The Panthers return to competition on April 1 at the SCIAC Multi-Dual #2.
