Track & field teams honored from academic excellence

Both track & field teams at Chapman University were recognized for their academic work. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association annually recognizes college teams from all levels of the NCAA and NAIA for academic excellence.

Record number of student-athletes achieve academic distinction

Chapman University student-athletes raised the bar with a record number of 220 SCIAC All-Academic selections for the 2017-18 school year. This year marks the first time in Chapman’s six-year history in the SCIAC that more than 200 Panthers were included on the All-Academic teams.

The Chapman University track & field teams wrapped up the season at the SCIAC Championships at the University of Redlands on Saturday. The Panthers had two more scorers in the field events.

The Chapman University men's and women's track and field teams began the SCIAC Championships at the University of Redlands on Friday. The Panthers were led by throwers sophomore Lauren Miller and junior Cedric Cole.

The Chapman University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the third SCIAC meet of the 2018 season this past weekend at Occidental College. Sophomore Mallory Jones set two personal records in the effort.

The Chapman University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the SCIAC Multi-Dual #2 at La Verne on Saturday. Six Panthers set personal records at the meet, including a couple of PR’s in both the men’s and women’s 3000-meter steeple chase.

The Chapman University men’s and women’s track teams competed at the 40th Annual Aztec Invitational Friday afternoon. A few Panthers achieved personal records, but junior Nika Cokas led the pack, beating her personal best in the 5000 meter race by 37 seconds and placing fifth overall in the event.

The Chapman University track & field teams continued to show improvement with 10 personal-bests at the Redlands Invitational. Junior Gina Pasquinelli set two personal-bests in the field events and posted a 10th-place finish in the high jump.

The Chapman University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Ben Brown Invitational this past Friday and Saturday. The Panthers were led once again by junior Cedric Cole, who threw for a personal best on his first toss of the day.

Junior Cedric Cole led the Chapman University track & field teams in the first SCIAC Multi-Dual of the season. Cole had the highest finish of any Panther on the day.

The Chapman University track & field teams opened the 2018 season with several top-10 finishes at the Soka Indoor Qualifier on Saturday. Junior Josie Chan took third in the triple jump for the Panthers’ top finish of the day.

The Chapman University track and field teams are ready to hit the ground running this season with new head coach DeAndra’e Woods leading the charge. Coming from a coaching position at Concordia University, Coach Woods looks to take the team to new heights as the team has grown in roster size during the offseason.
