Trio of women PR at Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Rossi Relays at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps yesterday.

Three members of the women's team achieved personal records at the meet. Junior Gina Pasquinelli set a personal best in the high jump, taking 12th place overall after jumping 1.47 meters (4.82 feet). Fellow junior Nika Cokas also set a personal record, this time in the 3000m race. She ran an 11:05.25 to place 40th overall. Rounding out the personal bests on the day was another runner in the 3000m race. Freshman Angela Vaynshteyn ran the race in 11:38.71 to set her PR.

Junior Josie Chan set a collegiate career-best in long jump, taking 22nd overall after jumping 4.74m (15.5 feet). Sophomore Lauren Miller placed in the top-20 in both of her events, taking 12th place in the shot put with a throw of 10.10 meters (33.13 feet) and 18th in the discus throw after a 27.09-meter (88.88 feet) toss.

The men were led by junior Cedric Cole, who also placed in the top-20 in his two throwing events. Cole placed 16th overall in the shot put with a throw of 11.6 meters (38.1 feet) and 12th overall in the discus throw with a 36.96-meter (121.26 feet) toss. Freshman Elon Grobey and sophomore Derek Ohara had strong finished in the men's long jump. Ohara placed 25th overall with a jump of 5.69 meters (18.68 feet) and Grobey was right behind him, finishing 30th with a jump of 5.37 meters (17.62 feet).

The 4x100 relay team of freshmen Axel Heide, Nima Nakhjavani, sophomore Alex Alvertos and Grobey finished 10th overall with a final time of 46.33.

Coach Woods look to the future for his squad. "Rossi Relays was a good second meet for us. There are areas we need to improve on but overall I believe we are moving in the right direction to prepare for our SCIAC Dual Meet this upcoming Saturday."

The Panthers return to the track on Saturday, March 3 at 10 a.m. to host the first SCIAC Multi-Dual at Occidental.
