Couple of PRs highlight Ben Brown Invite

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Ben Brown Invitational this past Friday and Saturday. The Panthers were led once again by junior Cedric Cole, who threw for a personal best on his first toss of the day.

Cole threw for a career-best 39.23 meters (128.7 feet) in the discus throw, placing third overall of the non-Division I schools. The junior also competed in the shot put, placing 10th overall with a throw of 11.55 meters (37.9 feet). Sophomore Elijah Orr took third place in the 5000-meter race with a time of 15:38.97. Sophomore Derek Ohara placed ninth overall in the long jump with a score of 5.53 meters (18.1 feet).

A trio of women finished top-10 in the 5000-meter race. Freshman Emma Eglinton finished fourth overall with a career-best time of 19:34.72. Junior Nika Cokas and freshman Angela Vaynshteyn finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Cokas came in with a time of 20:08.13 while the rookie finished less than a minute later at 20:59.64.

Freshman Gabi Siguenza excelled in two races this weekend. The rookie took sixth place in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:03.36. She also finished 11th overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.68. Junior Mia Hernandez ran the 800-meter run in 5:50.22, placing fifth overall of the non-Division I schools.

"This weekend we competed against a very competitive field. We had some pretty good performances and we are excited to see what the rest of the season holds," said Coach DeAndra'e Woods of this weekend's race.

The Panthers head to Redlands this Friday, March 16 at 3:30 p.m. for the Redlands Invite.
