Cole, Miller move on to SCIAC Championship Finals

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Chapman University men's and women's track and field teams competed in the SCIAC Championships earlier this afternoon at the University of Redlands. The Panthers were led by sophomore Lauren Miller and junior Cedric Cole, who each advanced to the finals tomorrow based on their preliminary scores.

Miller will be competing in the finals of the shot put after tossing 9.97 meters (32 feet, 8.5 inches) and placing in the top-9 of the prelims. Cole advanced to the finals in the discus throw after finishing in the top-9 of the prelims with a throw of 40.02 meters (131 feet, 3.6 inches).

Junior Hannah Pickerill, sophomore Mallory Jones and freshman Gabi Siguenza all set personal records in the preliminaries. Pickerill set her personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 64.39. Siguenza also set a personal-best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 62.39. Jones ran a personal-best in the 1500 meter run, finishing at 5:33.67. Freshman Emma Eglinton placed ninth overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:20.35.

The Panthers head back to the University of Redlands tomorrow at 4 p.m. to compete in the second day of the SCIAC Championships.
