Men's 4x400m win highlights SCIAC Multi Dual

ORANGE, Calif. – Despite the rainy conditions at Strehle Track in Claremont, Chapman men's 4X400m relay team battled to the finish to take first place overall by 12 milliseconds at their first multi dual of the season. The 4x400m team consisting of sophomore Aki Shigeyama, freshman Scott Fitzpatrick, junior Leithan Pulon, and junior Cody Epstein ran the time of 3:25.50.

The men's 4x100m team made up of sophomore Elon Grobey, freshman Don Celestine, sophomore Nick Callen, and junior Derek Ohara also had a standout performance, running a time of 44.06 and placing second overall at the meet.

In addition to the outstanding relay race performances by the men's team, both Fitzpatrick and Shigeyama ran personal records in the 800m. Fitzpatrick ran a 2:00.59 taking fourth place and Shigeyama ran a 2:03.69 taking sixth place.

On the women's side, freshman Arabella Reece and freshman Angelica Kolar both had standout performances during their SCIAC debut. As a rookie, Reece ran the 1500m for her first time running a 4:56.65 to take the winning spot. Kolar took second in both the 100m with a time of 13.07 and 200m with a time of 27.21.

In the field events, both the men's and women's teams had athletes continuing to set personal records as well. SeniorJosanni Martinez had a personal best in the javelin throwing 19.98m and sophomore Armond Gray jumped 5.88m for a best in the long jump.

Overall in the dual scoring, the women's team defeated Caltech 72-60 and came up short losing to Whittier 99-44. The men's team also beat Caltech 67-63 and lost to Whittier 86-59.
