Track & field has record-setting day at Ben Brown Invitational

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University track & field teams had an exciting meet filled with two new school records and eight personal bests at the Ben Brown Invitational on Saturday March ninth.

The first school record set at this meet was by sophomore Gabi Siguenza running a personal best of 1:07.96 in the 400m Hurdles. The previous school record in the 400m hurdles was 1.08.07 set by Peyton Collins in 2010. Siguenza commented on her accomplishment saying, "It felt really good to know all of the practice paid off."

The team also had multiple stand out performances in the 5000m race. The women's 5000m race consisted of a school record broken and a personal record set. Freshman Arabella Reece ran a 17:42.62 5000m to break the previous school record of 17:54.00 set by Carla Figueroa in 1988. This is the second individual school record that Reece has set this 2019 track season. She has also been a part of two relay records.

Sophomore Emma Eglinton also had an exceptional 5000m race running a time of 18:51.09 for a 43 second personal record, taking third in her heat. In the men's 5000m race junior Drake Butler ran a personal best of 15:42.74 which is 12 seconds faster than his previous personal record.

Sophomore Aki Shigeyama also had a great race running a time of 51.87 for personal best in the 400m. Sophomore Derek Ohara ran an 11.26 in the 100m dash, placing 10th with a personal best.
