Siguenza re-breaks 400 hurdles school record

ORANGE, Calif.- At the third and final SCIAC multi-dual of the season, sophomore Gabi Siguenza set the 400 meter hurdles school record of 1:06.06, breaking her previous record set earlier in the season. Both the men's and women's teams had many great performances despite falling short to defeat their conference competitors at Occidental College on Saturday.

At the meet, the Panthers saw many season bests and personal records being set by women and men in the long and triple jump events. On the men's team sophomore Armond Gray and sophomore Elon Grobey set personal records in both the triple and long jump. Gray jumped 6.08 meters in the long jump and 12.70 meters in the triple jump. Grobey jumped 6.13 meters in the long jump and 12.66 meters in the triple jump.

Freshman Promise Johnson and freshman Isabella Rudis also had some seasons best marks at the meet in the jump events. Rudis had a season-best jump in both the long and triple with the marks of 4.59 in the long and 10.32 in the triple. Johnson jumped a 9.88 in the triple jump for a season-best also.

In the running events, Freshman Carly Trent ran a season-best in the 800m with a time of 2.27.06. In a race filled with 15 women, Trent had a strong finish to take 7th place with less than a two-second gap between her and the third-place finisher.

Junior Lauren Miller also scored some points for the Panthers taking second place in the women shot put with a mark of 11.30 meters.

As the regular season comes to an end for the Panthers, Coach DeAndre'a Woods said "We had a lot of great performances today. We are right where we need to be as a program to make an impact in the SCIAC team scoring two weeks from now. Just like we (the coaching staff) told our student-athletes, they should be confident and proud of what we've done this regular season. We are excited to see what happens at Conference Championships."

The men and women's teams will be back at Occidental College for the SCIAC Championships on April 27-28.
