Track & field season opens with two school records

ORANGE, Calif. – Two school records went down in the season-opener for the Chapman University track & field teams. Adva Shilon broke her own pole vault record and Mason Fara debuted for the Panthers by demolishing the school record in the 400m.

In his first race as a Panther, Fara ran a 48.89 in the 400m dash. He won the event by three seconds over the nearest competitor while also setting the Chapman record. The previous record was set in 2020 by Donovan Wilson when he ran a 49.23.

In her season debut, Shilon cleared the bar at 3.20 meters (10-feet, 6-inches). She surpassed her previous best, and the school record, of 3.07 meters from last year. She took third in the event and also took third in the high jump with a PR jump of 1.50 meters (4-feet, 11-inches). Her high jump mark was just one-tenth of a meter below the school record set in 2002.

The women's 4x400m relay took first of four teams with a 4:05.83, defeating a pair of relay squads from CMS and another from Hope International. Lily Cooper also made her Chapman debut with a winning mark of 9.93 meters in the triple jump. The men's 4x400m relay team also finished first in a race of three teams with a 3:27.00.

The Panthers continue the early season meets next week at the OCC Early Bird at Orange Coast College.
