Home cooking gives Chapman fourth straight at Hutton

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University women's basketball team scored a season-high 90 points and earned a 90-46 win over visiting Southwestern College (Ariz.) on Friday night at the Hutton Center. The Panthers won for the fourth consecutive time on their home court and have won six of their past eight games overall.

A 52-point first half was more than enough for Chapman (8-9) which held its opponent below 50 points in the game for the second time this season. The Panthers quickly built a 22-3 lead within the first 8 minutes of the contest and never looked back. Junior F Simone Ibbotson made 6 of 7 field goal attempts in the first half for 12 of her game-high 16 points.

For good measure, the Panthers closed the half with a three-point buzzer beater from freshman G Emily McCoy and led 52-25 at halftime. McCoy scored nine points off the bench, including a pair of three-pointers and tied for the team lead with five rebounds.

The second half brought more of Chapman's stingy defense, which forced 45 turnovers in the game and limited the Eagles to just seven points over the initial 11:25 in the half. A two-point basket by freshman F Liz Harnett gave the Panthers their largest lead of the night at 51 points with 6:28 to play.

Sophomore G Mary Petrie earned five steals and also pitched in 14 points and three assists. Senior G Linda Ly finished with 11 points and four steals.

Chapman's four-game home winning streak is its longest of the season and improves the Panthers' record at the Hutton Center to 5-3. However, the Panthers will play their next four games on the road where their record is 3-6, and won't return home until Feb. 11 when Chapman will host Biola.
