14 players score for Chapman in 83-36 win over Southwestern

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's basketball team continued to win and win big as they defeated the Southwestern College Eagles 83-36 on Friday night at the Hutton Sports Center.  The Panthers have been rolling of late winning 16 of their last 17 games. Chapman has defeated its last two opponents by a combined 93 points. Friday night's 47-point victory is Chapman's second-largest margin of victory this season.

Chapman (17-4) controlled the game from beginning to end as senior G Tara Glennon got the team off to a quick start with four of the team's first six points. Glennon had a team-high 12 points on the night. The Eagles then closed the Panthers' lead to 13-7 with 13 minutes left in the first half.

Southwestern (2-15) did not get any closer as Chapman then broke the game open with a 21-0 run over the next nine minutes as eight Chapman players scored at least one bucket. 14 Panthers scored at least two points on the night. The run was highlighted by consecutive three-pointers by junior F Stephanie Servin, senior G Kelli Yamamoto and freshman G Kimi Takaoka. The freshman guard finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds off the bench. Freshman F Shannon Denney had a pair of buckets to close out the half giving Chapman a commanding 41-14 lead.

The Panthers' offense was complimented with a tenacious defense that forced 29 Southwestern turnovers. Seven Panthers had two or more steals led by senior F Simone Ibbotson who had a game-high four steals. Chapman held Southwestern to just 4-of-22 from the three-point line while converting eight of its 11 three-point shots on the night.

Chapman now travels to La Verne on Feb. 1 before returning home on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 for its final two home games of the year.
