Panthers' win streak snapped in 65-55 loss to Biola

ORANGE, Calif. – In its final non-conference game of the season, the Chapman University women's basketball team lost to Biola University, 65-55 at the Hutton Sports Center on Tuesday night. The Panthers' sixth straight loss to the Eagles also snaps their season-best four-game win streak.

Biola (5-10) utilized its size advantage from the outset, dominating the paint to open the game on an 11-2 run. Eagles F Adijat Adams, who finished the game with 14 points and 16 rebounds, made her presence known with nine points and nine rebounds in the first half alone.

Following an early timeout, the scrappy Panthers squad responded with a 13-2 run of their own, led by senior G Kimi Takaoka who contributed eight of her game-high 25 points over the six-minute stretch. The final eight minutes of the opening half featured three lead changes, but the Eagles came out on top, entering halftime with a 30-27 lead.

The lead changes came to an end in the second half when the Eagles went on 12-2, five-minute run to take a 54-50 lead with 6:13 remaining. Chapman (9-4) made a valiant effort late in the contest, pulling to within five points with 43 seconds remaining, but failed to secure a late turnover to reclaim the lead.

Takaoka, who earned SCIAC Player of the Week honors in the first week of the new year, recorded her 13th double-digit scoring effort on the season and her 10th game with 20 points or more. She currently leads the conference averaging over 22 points per game.

The Panthers will head out on the road on Thursday to take on Pomona-Pitzer in the first of 12 straight SCIAC games to close out the season. Tip-off with the Sagehens is slated for 7:30 p.m.
