Women's hoops earn big win on 'Senior Night'

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's basketball team concluded its regular season with a big 85-35 victory over Caltech on 'Senior Night' Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the Hutton Sports Center. The Panthers (13-12 overall, 9-6) will enter the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on a two-game winning streak as the No. 3-seed.

Chapman entered the game taking a 17-6 lead eight minutes into the game. The Panthers then extended their lead throughout the half going on a 24-7 run to end the half 41-16. Sophomore guard Lauren Sato led the Panther offense in the first half with nine points and six rebounds. Sato finished the game with a team-high of 14 points.

The Beavers unable to close in on the Panthers, fell to Chapman by 31 points five minutes into the second half to give the Panthers a 52-21 lead. Back-to-back three pointers by freshman guard Jaime Hum-Nishikado at the six minute mark gave Chapman a 76-29 lead. Hum-Nishikado finished the half with nine points, including three triples.

The Panthers scored a total of 43 points off the bench and maintained a lead of at least 20 for 30 minutes of the game. Chapman recorded 66 rebounds, with senior center Ivory Hallstein leading the Panthers with a team-high of 15 boards.

The Panthers will travel to the No. 2-seed Cal Lutheran University for the first round of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26. The winner of Thursday night's game will match up with the winner of the Claremont-Mudd-Scrips and Redlands University game on Thursday in the SCIAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday, Feb. 28.
