Women's basketball back on track with win over Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's basketball team quickly recaptured its winning ways with a 76-39 victory over Caltech on Tuesday. Junior Megan Charles led the charge for the Panthers (10-6, 5-2 SCIAC) with 20 points.

Charles posted her third 20-point game of the season while sophomore Jaime Hum-Nishikado drained six three-pointers to tie her career-high. Junior Courtney Krysl dished out five assists off the bench to aid in the big win.

Charles scored the first six points of the game and went on to score 14 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter. Junior Lauren Sato drained a three after Charles opening surge and Charles followed it up with another bucket to give Chapman an 11-0 lead out of the starting gates.

The Panthers continued its high-pressure defense on the visiting Beavers, forcing 39 turnovers and scoring 39 points off turnovers as compared to Caltech's five points off turnovers.

Michelle Wong and Stephanie Wong each tallied 11 points to lead the Beavers.

Chapman will look to ride the momentum of win into a big matchup with SCIAC-leading Cal Lutheran on Saturday. CU hosts the Regals at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
