Charles, Broughton honored as SCIAC athletes of the week

ORANGE, Calif. – The SCIAC honored a pair of Panthers on with Athlete of the Week honors for the second time with season. Junior Megan Charles won her first Female Athlete of the Week Award of the season alongside freshman Connor Broughton, who brought in his first. Charles is the Panthers third women's basketball player to bring in the honor this season and Broughton is Chapman's first swimmer to win the award.

Charles is averaging 14.2 points per game to rank third in the SCIAC and has started all 18 games this season. On Saturday, Charles scored eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Panthers to a win over Cal Lutheran to end the Regals perfect SCIAC run. The junior guard also scored a game-high 20 points against Caltech, posting 20-plus points for the third time this season. Charles has scored double-digits in all 12 of the Panthers wins this season.

Broughton broke his own school record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:15.94, breaking his existing CU record by three seconds. His final time was the winning time by seven seconds and is just eight seconds shy of an NCAA "B" cut. Broughton has broken the record in the 400 IM each time that he has swam it this season, breaking the year-old record by over a second the first time he swam it back in November.
