Chapman earns third straight win

ORANGE, Calif. –  Sophomore Jaryn Fajardo scored 16 points and grabbed four steals and six assists to lead the Chapman University women's basketball team to a 63-61 victory over University of Redlands at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs and Panthers traded leads five times and tied the game 10 times before the Panthers walked away with their third straight victory.

In the third quarter with 4:32 left on the clock, Chapman pulled away on a 16-8 run to take their largest lead of the game, eight points, 53-47 heading into the fourth quarter. Fajardo scored four points on the Panthers crucial run.

With just 5:12 left in the game, Redlands came within a point capping off a 6-0 run with a triple from Courtney Chen to tighten the score 56-55. The Bulldogs continued to press the Panthers through the last five minutes of the game but Chapman walked away with the win when the Bulldogs missed the tying layup with less than a second on the clock.

Junior Irma Munoz led the Panthers on the boards with eight, while seniors Lauren Sato and Megan Charles scored in double digits with 15 and 11 points respectively.

The Panthers forced an impressive 23 turnovers while giving up only nine. The Bulldogs were led by Reyna Ta'amu who recorded the only double-double of the game with 14 points and a game-high 16 boards.

The Panthers will take its next two games to the road, beginning with a 7 p.m. match at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
