Athenas out-rebound Chapman in 50-47 loss

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's basketball team forced 16 turnovers but ultimately fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 50-47 at the Hutton Sports Center on Wednesday night.

The Panthers took the early lead 6-5 six minutes into the game, but a jump shot from Corinne Bogle sparked an 8-2 run to lift the Athenas to a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Claremont maintained the lead the rest of the game, gaining its largest lead of 12 points in the fourth quarter to solidify the victory.

Chapman had go-ahead chances in all four quarters, scoring 15 points off of 16 turnovers but the Athena's come-from-behind lead in the first ultimately prevailed.

The Athenas (10-6 overall, 6-1 SCIAC) produced 11 second chance points off of 15 rebounds to control the rebound column 45-27. Claremont also racked up 19 points from the bench, with every Athena getting points on the board.

Senior Lauren Sato scored a game-high 12 points for Chapman and sophomore Jaryn Fajardo contributed 10 points and six assists.

Next up, Chapman hosts Whittier College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 in the Hutton Sports Center. The Panthers will then travel to Caltech for a road game on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
