Fajardo notches second SCIAC weekly honor

ORANGE, Calif. – For the second time this season, sophomore Jaryn Fajardo has earned SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors. Chapman's point guard led the Panthers to two more wins last week, extending their win streak to five games.

The sophomore from Torrance, Calif., had a career-best scoring night on Wednesday and followed it up by matching her career-high with nine assists on Saturday. Fajardo caught fire on Wednesday night at Redlands in leading the Panthers to a 72-69 win on the road. She was 6-for-12 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the line to fuel her big scoring night. She still dished out six assists and grabbed seven rebounds without turning the ball over.

On Saturday, Fajardo was just shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine assists in an 18-point win at La Verne. She had another efficient shooting night, shooting 4-for-6 and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe. With the win, Chapman remained in a tie with Cal Lutheran for first place at 9-2 while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps suffered its third loss of the season and fell from the top spot.

While averaging over 11 points per game, Fajardo's assist numbers have been inflating rapidly. She is averaging 4.4 assists per game this year and six assists per game in SCIAC games – both of which lead the conference. Her 2.38 assist-to-turnover ratio this season ranks 13th in all of Division III.

The Panthers return home this week to take on Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday and host Caltech on Saturday.
