Panthers clinch tournament spot behind Hum-Nishikado

ORANGE, Calif. –  Junior Jaime Hum-Nishikado had the hot hand off the bench leading the Chapman University women's basketball team to a 82-55 victory at the Hutton Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. The guard score 19 points in the first half to help the Panthers clinch a SCIAC Tournament playoff spot.

Tied 6-6 two minutes into the game, the Panthers hit a 16-2 run to take the lead 24-8 with two minutes left in the first quarter. Chapman finished the first half leading 44-18 with Hum-Nishikado sinking 5-of-6 threes.

The Panthers grabbed their largest lead of the game, 32 points, with eight minutes left in the game. The Panthers shot an impressive 47.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.

Hum-Nishikado led the Panthers with career-high 27 points, while senior Megan Charles produced 18.

Chapman will take its next two games to the road and return home for 'Senior Night' at the Hutton Sports Center on Tuesday, February 21. Tipoff against Occidental will be at 5 p.m.
