Strand and Hextrum sweep SCIAC weekly awards

ORANGE, Calif. – A couple of Chapman University women's basketball players swept the SCIAC weekly awards after impressive performances this week. Sophomore Julia Strand earned Offensive Athlete of the Week while junior Taylor Hextrum earned Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Strand and Hextrum helped the Panthers to a 1-1 week with a 72-62 loss to No. 8 DePauw and an 81-73 victory over Hardin Simmons.

Strand put up 17 points in the loss to DePauw, followed by her second career double-double with a career-high 25 points and 11 rebounds. The Seattle, Wash. native also grabbed nine rebounds against DePauw to average 10 rebounds per game and 21 points per game. She tallied seven total steals and two blocks for her first SCIAC weekly award this season.

Hextrum put up a career-high 15 boards in Chapman's victory over Hardin-Simmons. She also added four rebounds the day before to average 9.5 boards on the week. The Santa Rosa, Calif. native scored four points in each game while also tallying two steals and a block.

The Panthers take two weeks off for the holiday break before returning to Hutton Sports Center on Sunday, Dec. 29 to host Cal Lutheran at 4 p.m.
