Women's golf takes sixth at first SCIAC tournament

SAN DIMAS, Calif. –  The Chapman University women's golf team took sixth in its first SCIAC tournament of the spring season. In its first trip to SCIAC #1, the Panthers shaved 13 strokes from day one to day two.

As a team, the Panthers battled the elements on day one but carded a 389 for a two-stroke lead on Occidental for sixth place. Chapman increased its lead with a 376 on the second day to finish with a final score of 765 to take sixth. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the team completion, followed by Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer, Cal Lutheran and Whittier. Chapman took sixth by 21 strokes over Occidental.

Sophomore Emily Lewis led the Panthers at the SCIAC tournament, carding a two-round score of 175 (+31). She took three shots from the first round to the second to lead the team improvement. Freshman Haylie Bantle also showed improvement with a 97 on day one and a 93 on day two to finish 31st overall.

Junior Brittany Bilek had the biggest improvement from round to round, taking seven shots off her score. After firing a 102 on day one, she came back with a 95 on day two. Freshman Alison Lee rounded out the team scoring, finishing 35th overall with a 203.

The Panthers wrapped up their first spring tournament and will next host Long Beach State at Tustin Ranch on Tuesday, Mar. 7.
