Harada, Lewis finish in top-5 at CLU Regals Invite

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Freshman Kristy Harada and sophomore Emily Lewis matched their best rounds of the season to finish in the top-5 and lead the Chapman University women's golf team at the CLU Regals Invitational. The Panthers finished fourth as a team in the seven-team tournament.

Harada finished the two-day tournament with a six-over 78 to match her previous season-best and take fourth individually. Her 78 on day two was the second-lowest round of the day by any of the 36 golfers in the tournament. She was just one stroke more than the best round of the day shot by the tournament medalist.

Harada improved by three strokes from her first round to finish the 36-hole tournament with a 159 (+18) – just seven strokes off the medalist. Lewis began the tournament with a 79 (+7) and was 10-over par on day two to finish in a tie for fifth at 17-over with a 161. She also matched her best round of the year with a 79.

Junior Brittany Bilek took 22nd, finishing with a 36-hole score of 180 (+36). Freshman Haylie Bantle was the fourth Panther on the course this week, improving from day one to day two. She finished in 27th with a 189 (+45).

As a team, the Panthers put up consistent scores from day one to day two. Chapman shot a 344 (+56) on day one to sit in third of the seven-team tournament. On day two, the Panthers carded a 345 (+57). Cal Lutheran shaved 27 strokes off their team score to jump the Panthers for third place.

Pomona-Pitzer won the team title, followed by Whittier and Cal Lutheran. The Panthers were 33 strokes ahead of Texas Lutheran for fourth place. Occidental took sixth and Augsburg took seventh.

The Panthers have just two tournaments left in the inaugural season but won't be back out on the course until the SCIAC #2 on Apr. 8-9.
