Women's golf in sixth at first SCIAC Championship

CHINO HILLS, Calif. – The Chapman University women's golf team placed sixth after the first round of the SCIAC Championship. Sophomore Emily Lewis led the Panthers on the leaderboard in the first SCIAC Championship in program history.

Lewis shot an 11-over 83 to start the three-round event. She is in 17th after day one. A pair of freshmen were next up on the leaderboard with Kristy Harada shooting and 86 (+14) and Haylie Bantle turning in a card of 89 (+17). Harada is in 20th while Bantle is in a tie for 31st.

Junior Brittany Bilek was 20-over par and is in 36th individually. As a team, the Panthers carded a 350 (+62) to place in sixth of the seven teams. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads on team leaderboard with an 18-over 306. The Athenas' Taylor Hughes leads on the individual learderboard.

The three-round tournament continues tomorrow and concludes on Tuesday at Los Serranos Country Club.
