Women's golf takes fourth in fall finale

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Chapman University women's golf team wrapped up its fall season with a fourth-place finish at the Embry-Riddle Co-ed Invitational this week. The second-year program recorded a team score at a 54-hole tournament for the first time in program history.

As a team, the Panthers thrived in the second round. All four golfers used less than 80 strokes to complete the round and record a team score of 308 (+20), which was the second-lowest round of the day and fourth-lowest of the entire tournament. However, the Panthers started the tournament with a 337 (+49) and finished the final round at 328 (+40). Their total tournament score of 973 (+109) placed the Panthers right in the middle of the pack in fourth after starting in sixth.

Junior Marisa Bhanubandh led the Panthers with an 11th-place finish out of the seven-team, 40-golfer tournament. She totaled a 238 to finish 22-over par. After firing an 82 in the first round, Bhanubandh shaved four strokes off with a 78 (+6) in the second and third rounds.

Freshman Lauren Settle had the best round of her short career with a four-over par 76 in the second round. She took 14th overall with a three-round score of 242 (+26). Sophomore Kristy Harada too 19th overall with a 245 (+29). Junior Emily Lewis took 23rd overall despite having the Panthers low round of the tournament with a three-over par 75 in the second round. She finished with a 248 (+32).

Biola was 60-over par as a team to take the team title, followed by Embry-Riddle and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Arizona Christian, Ottawa University and Benedictine rounded out the team standings.

The Panthers finished up their fall schedule with the three-round tournament in Arizona. They will return to the course in the spring.
