Women's golf takes third at SCIAC #2

PASADENA, Calif. – The Chapman University women's golf team posted its best-ever finish in the program's brief history with a third-place finish in the SCIAC #2. Junior Emily Lewis took seventh place individually to lead the Panthers.

In just the fifth SCIAC event in the program's two-year history, the Panthers climbed into the top-3 after the first day of the two-day tournament and held on to third for day two in the historic finish. The Panthers began the tournament with a 321 (+33) to place third after the first day and held on to the team position with a 322 (+34) after the second day.

Lewis was six-over par with a 78 to sit in 11th on the leaderboard after the first round but shave two strokes off on day two with a 74 (+4). Her two-stroke improvement propelled her all the way up to seventh for another top-10 SCIAC finish with a 154 (+10).

Freshman Lauren Settle equaled Lewis on day one but fired an 82 (+10) on the second day as she fell to 13th with a 160 (+16). Sophomore Kristy Harada took 18th individually with a 162 (+18) over the two-day tournament. After shooting an 85 (+13) on the first day, junior Malia Valder took three strokes off on day two to move up to 21st on the player leaderboard with a 167 (+23) for the tournament.

Chapman will host Hope International in a dual match on April 18 before heading out to Los Serranos Golf Club for the SCIAC Championship on April 22-24.
