Lewis in second, women's golf in fourth after day one

CHINO HILLS, Calif. – Junior Emily Lewis  is tied for second and the Chapman University women's golf team is in fifth after the first round the 2018 SCIAC Golf Championship at Los Serranos Golf Club. The Panthers shot a 35-over 323 to start the three round tournament.

Lewis is near the top of the leaderboard after firing a four-over 76 to open the tournament. She currently sits in a three-way tie for third and is seven strokes back of the leader from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Lewis parred 12 holes on the day – the second-most of the field after day one.

Sophomore Kristy Harada was eight-over with an 80 on day one to sit in 14th on the leaderboard. Junior Marisa Bhanubandh shot an 83 and freshman Lauren Settle turned in an 84 to round out the team scoring. Sophomore Haylie Bantle shot a 91 and junior Malia Valder followed with a 92.

The Panthers are just five strokes back of Pomona-Pitzer for third place in the tournament and lead Whittier by four strokes. The Athenas from CMS shot a 299 to start the tournament with a 15-stroke lead.

The SCIAC Championship continues tomorrow with the first groups teeing off at 9 a.m.
