Women's golf moves up to third at SCIAC Championship

LOS SERRANOS, Calif. – The Chapman University women's golf team shaved 11 strokes off its team score to move into third place at the SCIAC Championship after two rounds. Three Panthers turned in sub-80 rounds while all six were under 90 on the day.

Junior Emily Lewis stayed in the top-5 with a three-over 75 on day two. Despite cutting closer to the leader, she fell from second to fifth. Heading into the final round, she sits just five strokes out of first and two strokes out of second with a combined card of 151 (+7).

Junior Marisa Bhanubandh also carded a three-over 75 in the second round to move up to 11th on the leaderboard with a two-day score of 158 (+14). After shaving off one stroke from her first round, sophomore Kristy Harada  moved up to 14th with a two-day score of 169 (+15). She shot a seven-over 79 in the second round.

Junior Malia Valder rounded out the team score with an 83 (+11), taking nine strokes off her day one card.

Freshman Lauren Settle turned in an 84 (+12) while sophomore Haylie Bantle took off three strokes from the first round for an 88 (+16).

Chapman is just five strokes behind Cal Lutheran for second place and holds a five-stroke lead on Whittier in fourth.

The SCIAC Championship concludes tomorrow with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m.
