Women's golf takes second at SCIAC Championship

LOS SERRANOS, Calif. – In just the second year of program history, the Panthers have risen near the top of the SCIAC with a second-place team finish at the SCIAC Championship. Individually, junior Emily Lewis paced the Panthers with a fourth-place finish.

Chapman continued its rise up the team standings to take second place as a team at the championship tournament. The Panthers finished with a team score of 935 (+89) to leapfrog Cal Lutheran in the standings. CMS took home the team title.

The Panthers edged out Whittier by two strokes, Cal Lutheran by three strokes and Pomona-Pitzer by six strokes to claim its place in the top-2. With the top-2 finish at the championship tournament, the Panthers also rose to third place in the season standings.

Lewis put together an impressive championship run for the second year in a row – the only two in program history. She remained in the top-5 and took fourth overall to lead Chapman. She fired off a four-over 76 for the day to finish 11-over for the tournament – just seven strokes behind the leader.

Junior Marisa Bhanubandh finished in 14th, turning in a three-day score of 238 (+22). Freshman Lauren Settle shot an eight-over 80 in the third round to move up to 23rd overall with a 248 (+32). Junior Malia Valder improved by a stroke on day three with an 82 (+10) to finish the tournament with a 257 (+41) and round out the team scoring.

Sophomore Haylie Bantle finished in 37th with a 267 (+51).

The Panthers wrapped up the season with one of its best performances of the season and the best finish at a SCIAC event in their brief program history.
