Offense erupts for 25 goals in WLAX win over Linfield

ORANGE, Calif.- With 25 goals from 14 different players, the Chapman University women's lacrosse team cruised by Linfield College, 25-2 on Monday at Wilson Field. The offensive output marked a season-best for the Panthers, who moved their record to 9-3 with their last non-conference matchup of the season.

Disguised by the lopsided outcome, the Wildcats actually held the first lead of the game as a goal from Brittani Drost put Linfield up 1-0. The Panthers would not even the score until freshman midfielder Kelsey Mackin netted the first of her three goals four minutes into the contest.

Junior Victoria Wilkinson put the Panthers ahead with a free position goal at 23:23 and the team never looked back. Wilkinson would score three more times for a game-high four goals, followed closely by three-goal performances from Mackin, Allison Camp and Savannah Schmidt.

Following the opening Linfield goal, Chapman scored 14 unanswered goals to take a 14-1 lead into halftime. The Panthers opened the second half with more offense, expanding the lead to 16-1 before Shelby Duarte netted the Wildcats' second and final goal of the game.

The Panthers' offensive display overshadowed a strong defensive effort that saw the Wildcats take just 10 shots compared to Chapman's 44. The Panthers controlled possession throughout the game, claiming 21 draw controls to Linfield's six. Goalie Anjali Thota was effective when shot upon, tallying five saves in the game.

The Panthers will reenter SCIAC play in their next game as they play host to Pomona-Pitzer on April 5 at 7 p.m.
