Oneonta State tops Chapman 21-12 in a slugfest

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team dropped its third straight game, this time to Oneonta State (N.Y.) 21-12 at Wilson Field on Saturday in its first non-conference matchup of the season. The 33-goal slugfest marks a season-high in combined goals for a single Chapman game.

Oneonta State (2-0) hit the field running, getting out to an 8-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the game. Senior M Nicole Fioretti scored four of the Red Dragons' first eight goals. The Panthers finally got on the scoreboard with a goal by sophomore M Allison Camp with 14:37 left in the first half and Chapman kept pace with Oneonta State for the rest of the half as the Dragons took a 12-6 advantage into the break.

Despite the early deficit, Chapman (1-4, 1-3 SCIAC) continued to pressure on offense, equaling its second-highest goal total of the year. The Panthers were led by Camp, who scored four goals on the day. Camp is Chapman's leading scorer with 14 goals this season. Junior D Kristin Robbins and sophomore M Brooke Martini added two goals each for Chapman.

The Dragons' high-scoring offense was led by Fioretti's five goals, along with four from senior M Casey Sarle and three more scored by junior A Kiera McNally. Senior A Chelsea Collins led Oneonta with six assists.

The Panthers return to SCIAC play on March 1 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 1 p.m. and will return home to host Albion College (MI) on March 14 at 7 p.m at Wilson Field.
