Panthers get offensive late to beat Pacific 18-7

ORANGE, Calif. – An offensive onslaught by the Chapman University women's lacrosse team in the second half, gave the Panthers a convincing 18-7 win over visiting Pacific University (Ore.) on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field. Chapman scored 12 goals after the intermission, including finishing the game on a 7-1 run, and has now won two of its last three overall.

Chapman (3-6) scored the game's first three goals, including a pair by sophomore M Allison Camp, and led from start to finish. But the Panthers lead was just 6-3 at halftime in an otherwise defensive affair.

The Panthers began to stretch the lead in the second half, again opening with three consecutive scores – one by sophomore A Kylee Moore who finished with a team-high four. Pacific (5-5) got to within five goals at the 19:08 mark in the half on a goal by junior M Amy Mayhugh to make it 11-6 Chapman. But the Panthers scored the next five goals to take a double-digit lead and never looked back.

Freshman M Tessa Oliaro scored all three of her goals in the second half to pace the Chapman offense. The Panthers dominated time of possession thanks to a 13-4 advantage in draw controls in the period. Senior M Lauren Mah won a season-high 12 draws for the Panthers and aided the scoring effort with a pair of goals in the game.

Mayhugh finished with a team-high four goals for the Boxers.

Chapman goalkeepers senior Kara Podesta and freshman Tara Sonnemaker combined to make eight saves.
