Three Panthers selected to All-SCIAC lacrosse team
ORANGE – Three Chapman University women's lacrosse players have been selected to the All-SCIAC team for the 2014 season as voted on by the conference coaches. Sophomore M Brooke Martini was named to the First Team, while seniors Catherine LaPlant and Allie Kontny earned Second Team honors.
Martini led the Panthers with a career-high 43 points in 16 games, including 37 goals which tied for eighth-highest in the SCIAC. The sophomore scored at least one point in all but two games this season, including a career-high six goals in a game versus Whittier College. She also finished second on the team with 35 draw controls. It is her first All-Conference selection.
A pair of seniors, LaPlant and Kontny earned Second Team honors for the first time in their careers. Kontny led Chapman and was sixth in the conference with 18 assists and was second on the team with 41 total points (23 goals). The attacker finished her career (including two years of club lacrosse) with over 100 goals. On defense, LaPlant was a mainstay for a unit that allowed 10 goals or less seven times this season. Transitioning to a more offensive role late in the year, she finished with five goals and an assist to go along with 17 ground balls and 15 draw controls.
The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
