Lead slips from Panthers in 11-10 loss to CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team fell 11-10 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday night at Wilson Field. The Panthers scored five goals in the first seven minutes of the game but their lead ultimately slipped away as Chapman moved to 2-1 on the season.  

Trailing 7-4, the Athenas went on a 4-0 run at the 16:40 minute mark to steal the lead from the Panthers 8-7 heading into the second half. The run consisted of three consecutive goals from freshman Carly Keeny over just a five minute span.

The Panthers and Athenas each scored three goals apiece in the second half, allowing the Athenas preserve the lead 11-10. Freshman Corie Hack also scored a hat trick for Claremont, scoring all three goals for the Athenas in the first half.

Junior Gretchen Rodenberger led the Panthers with three goals, including two goals in the first half. Senior Brooke Martini was a force on field for Chapman winning three draw controls and forcing a pair of turnovers.

The Panthers will continue their eight game home stand on Wednesday, February 2. Chapman will face off against Occidental at 7 p.m. on Wilson Field.
