Win streak reaches four after goals galore

ORANGE, Calif. – Goals came in bunches and the defense was stingy in a 17-3 win over visiting Gordon on Thursday. Sophomore Becka Wachtel scored four goals to lead the Panthers offensively while the defense did not allow a second half goal.

Senior Brooke Martini scored the Panthers first goal four minutes into the contest but Gordon struck less than minute later to knot up the match early on. From there on, the Panthers took over control of the contest. Over the next 16 minutes, Chapman went on a 6-0 run to open a 7-1 lead with junior Gretchen Rodenberger and sophomore Stacey Zuppa each finding the back of the net twice.

Junior Tara Sonnemaker made four big saves in the second half to keep the visitors from Gordon off the board in the final 30 minutes. She ended the match with six total saves while allowing only the three goals. She also picked up five ground balls.

While the defense kept the zero on the board, the Panther offense surged. Chapman scored five goals in the first nine minutes of the second half to open up a 10-goal lead at 13-3.The Panthers took 33 shots to the Fighting Scotts' 11.
