Late run for Colorado spells trouble for Panthers

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team fell 19-15 to Colorado College on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field. The Panthers had six Panthers with at least a pair of goals in the loss.  

Freshman Danielle Zahn and junior Gretchen Rodenberger led the Panthers with a hat trick each. Rodenberger scored two of her three in the first half and won a team-high three draw controls in the second half. In addition to Zahn's three goals, the freshman forced four turnovers and recorded three assists.

The Panthers went goal-for-goal with Colorado in the first half with each team netting nine goals. Senior Brooke Martini netted a pair of goals in the first half lifting the Panthers to an 8-5 lead with 8:05 left. However the Tigers ended the half with a 3-1 run to tie the game up 9-9.

Tied 9-9 at the start of the second half, the Tigers pulled away opening up with a 5-1 run over a 16 minute span to take the lead 14-10. However, Chapman fired back with its own 5-1 run over the next seven minutes to even the score back up 15-15.

With less than eight minutes on the clock, the Tigers ran away with the win scoring four uncontested goals to earn the 19-15 road victory. Colorado junior Steph Kelly was a force on the field, winning 13 draw controls and scoring three goals. Sophomore Annie DeFrino led the Tigers with a game-high five goals.

Chapman will host Southwestern Texas on Friday, March 18 at 11 a.m. on Wilson Field. The Panthers will return to SCIAC play on Saturday, March 26 at Pomona-Pitzer.
