Women's lacrosse rolls past Tigers

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team dominated from start to finish in an 18-1 win over visiting DePauw on Tuesday at Wilson Field. Junior Gretchen Rodenberger scored a team-best five goals to lead the rout.

Sophomore Stacey Zuppa opened the scoring with Chapman's first goal less than a minute-and-a-half into the contest but it was Rodenberger who established the dominant pace that Chapman would keep the entire afternoon. Rodenberger scored with 25:22 on the clock to make it 2-0 Chapman. She scored again at 24:42 and again at 22:32. It was a hat trick in less than three minutes.

From there, the Panthers (8-2) continued to dominate. Chapman picked up 16 draw controls compared to the Tigers' five and scooped up 29 ground balls compared to 16 for the visitors. Chapman fired off 35 shots while only allowing five.

Junior goalie Tara Sonnemaker stopped four of the five shots she faced to keep the Tigers to a single goal. Chapman scored the first 17 goals of the contest, keeping DePauw off the board until there was only 8:05 left in the match.

Kelsey Mackin scored four goals and Brooke Martini scored three to go along with two ground balls, a pair of draw controls and a caused turnover. Eight different Panthers found the back of the net as the Panthers scored at least 15 goals for the fifth straight match.

After eight consecutive matches at home, the Panthers head out on the road this weekend as they jump back into conference play at Whittier on Saturday.
