Wachtel becomes second Panther in a row to earn SCIAC weekly honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Becka Wachtel eight-goal week has landed her the SCIAC's women's lacrosse Athlete of the Week honors. With Wachtel leading the attack, the Panthers won their fifth straight and locked up the No. 2 seed in the SCIAC Tournament. This is the second week in a row in which a Panther has been honored as Athlete of the Week.

Wachtel began her week with a five-goal outburst against Occidental in leading Chapman to a 14-9 road win. She also hauled in four draw controls and had an assist. She scored three more times against Redlands to increase her season total to 32 goals – second-highest on the team.

The West Linn, Ore., native had another assist against Redlands with three groundballs. She scored twice in the first half to help bring the Panthers back within striking distance after going down 3-0 to start the match.

She is averaging nearly three goals per match over the Panthers' five-match win streak with multiple goals in each match.

The Panthers host first-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday before finishing the regular season on the road at Whittier.
