Women’s lacrosse drops fifth in a row

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team fell 17-8 to the visiting Rhodes College (5-2) earlier this evening. Senior Stacey Zuppa led the Panthers (0-5) on offense with four goals.

The Lynx started the scoring, going up 1-0 just over two and a half minutes into the first half. Zuppa answered with back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart from each other to give Chapman a one-point lead.

Rhodes tied it up with a free position shot then regained the lead less than a minute later off a goal from senior Olivia Holmes. Zuppa then scored her third goal of the match to tie the game at three. The lynx went on a 9-1 run to end the first half, leading the Panthers 12-4 going into halftime.

Rhodes senior Kendall Cunningham scored two of her team-high eight goals in the first eight minutes of the second half, extending the Lynx' lead even further. Chapman responded with two quick goals less than two minutes apart from freshman Elena Guillen and junior Danielle Zahn to make the score 14-6 with just under 19 minutes left to play.

Zahn and Zuppa each tallied one more goal, but Rhodes closed out the game with three goals of its own, notching its fifth victory of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Hextrum tallied six saves in 60 minutes of play. Chapman peppered the Rhodes goalkeeper with 23 shots, but sophomore Lauren Lazure recorded 15 saves for a crucial night between the pipes for the Lynx.

The Panthers return to Wilson Field to host Springfield College on Sunday, March 11 at 11 a.m.
