Goldsberry, Callaway score on women’s lacrosse senior day

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team dropped a tough senior day game 21-2 to the visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (16-1, 10-0 SCIAC) earlier this afternoon. Freshman Cami Goldsberry and sophomore Alexandra Callaway each netted a goal to put the Panthers (5-10, 4-6 SCIAC) on the board.

The Athenas scored five goals in the first eight minutes to take an early lead. Less than a minute after the fifth goal, Goldsberry struck back with a goal that was assisted by Callaway. CMS responded with a goal just 15 seconds later, but Callaway fought back. The sophomore received a pass from senior Stacey Zuppa and buried the ball in the back of the net to give Chapman its final goal of the game.

The Athenas went on a 9-0 run to end the first half and take a 15-2 lead.

CMS could not be stopped as they scored six unanswered goals in the second half to run away with the victory.

Sophomore Leah Donnelly helped in the effort, tallying four ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Hextrum was peppered with shots throughout the game but was able to stop 12 shots to reach the historic milestone of over 100 career saves. The rookie is now fifth all-time in single-season saves with 104 saves.

The Panthers currently sit in fourth place in the conference standings after their final regular-season game of the 2018 season. The SCIAC Postseason Tournament seeding will be set after Redlands and Pomona-Pitzer play each other tomorrow, April 22.
