Four Panthers earn All-SCIAC honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Four members of the Chapman University women's lacrosse team were awarded All-SCIAC selections earlier this morning. Senior Danielle Zahn and junior Ally Kroeckel earned spots on the First Team while senior Shelby Thompson and freshman Meg Hanson earned Second Team honors.

This is Zahn's third consecutive All-SCIAC selection and first time on the First Team. The senior's 120 career goals currently ranks second all-time in program history and her 142 career points ranks fourth all-time. This season, Zahn led the Panthers with a career-high 39 goals, 23 of those coming against SCIAC opponents. The Mission Viejo native tallied 35 ground balls, 50 draw controls and caused 19 turnovers in conference games.

Kroeckel earned her second All-SCIAC selection with a spot on the First Team this year. The defender started all nine games against SCIAC opponents this season, picking up 19 ground balls while causing six turnovers. In a crucial win over Redlands earlier this season, the San Ramon native caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls to hold the Bulldogs to 11 goals.

This is Thompson's third consecutive Second Team selection after being a force on defense for the Panthers for the past four years. She started every SCIAC match this season, picking up 32 ground balls while causing 17 turnovers against conference opponents. The San Clemente native picked up a career-high nine ground balls against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, setting the new Chapman single-game record for ground balls.

Hanson had a breakout rookie season for the Panthers, earning a spot on the Second Team. She scored 17 goals and tallied 10 assists for 27 points against SCIAC opponents. The Centennial, Colo. native also picked up 20 ground balls and caused seven turnovers in conference matches. Hanson tallied a career-high five points in both matches against Redlands this season, scoring four goals and tallying one assist in each match.

The Panthers head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tomorrow, May 1 at 7 p.m. for the semifinals of the SCIAC Tournament.
