SCIAC Tournament: 5 Things to Know

CHAMPIONSHIP BOUND

Chapman landed the No. 4 seed in this year's tournament with a 4-6 conference record and faces the top-seeded 10-0 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas (14-2, 10-0 SCIAC) in the SCIAC Tournament Semifinals. Last year, Chapman and CMS had the same 4-6 and 10-0 record and faced off in the semifinals, where the Athenas advanced with a 17-6 win.

TOP FOUR

Chapman has earned a top-4 seed in the SCIAC Tournament in each of the seven years of the program's history. Of those years, the Panthers have advanced to the finals three times. This is the third consecutive year that Chapman and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are facing off in the postseason tournament.

CMS WIN STREAK

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps has secured the SCIAC Tournament Championship title for the past two years. The last time Chapman and CMS faced off in the finals was in 2017, when CMS pulled away with the 18-9 victory. The Athenas have won the last eight consecutive matches against the Panthers, earning a 20-12 victory the last time these two teams faced off in April.

RE-WRITING THE RECORD BOOKS

Senior Shelby Thompson broke the single game ground ball pickup record on senior day in April. Her nine ground balls in the game put her one above the previous school record of eight. In March, senior Danielle Zahn reached 100 career goals. Since then, she has scored 20 more to reach 120 career goals, the second highest in program history behind Kelsey Mackin '17.

ALL-SCIAC HONOREES

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps took home two of the four major awards in this year's All-SCIAC selections. Juniors Corie Hack and Zoe Ryan earned Offensive and Defensive Athlete of the Year respectively. The Athenas added six more selections to land eight athletes on the list. Chapman's Danielle Zahn and Ally Kroeckel earned First Team honors while senior Shelby Thompson and freshman Meg Hansen landed spots on the Second Team. This was a repeat award for Zahn, Thompson and Kroeckel as the seniors earned their third consecutive All-SCIAC selection and Kroeckel earned her second.
