Women's lacrosse falls to CMS in SCIAC semis

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse season came to an end with an 18-6 loss in the SCIAC semifinal at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Junior Leah Donnelly scored four of the Panthers' six goals.

Chapman fell into an early 6-0 and wasn't able to climb out. SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year Corie Hack scored four of the Athenas' first six goals in the first seven minutes to build the early lead. Freshman Meg Hanson put the Panthers on the board just over nine and a half minutes in when she converted a free-position shot.

The Athenas continued to pull away with a first half scoring spree but Donnelly scored twice in the last 12 minutes and freshman Allison Smith scored on a free-position attempt as well to make it 12-4 at halftime.

Four consecutive goals from CMS started the second half as the Panthers fell behind by double digit. Donnelly scored with 11:11 and 7:11 left in the second half but the Panthers were unable to get back into single digits.

The Panthers held a 13-12 advantage on draw controls led by senior Danielle Zahn with five and Donnelly with four. Sophomore Preetha Raj made 14 saves and held CMS to just three free-position goals on 11 attempts.

The Panthers end the season with a 7-9 overall record to finished fourth in the SCIAC. CMS moves on to host Saturday's championship game.
