ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team fell 20-11 in its home-opener against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Senior Vanessa Topete and sophomore Josie Morrissey led the Panthers with three goals.
Chapman had two early goals called back due to various violations as it fell behind 6-1 in the first quarter. The Athenas led by as many as 11 although Chapman scored the final two goals of the game.
After falling behind 6-1, Chapman played CMS even in the second quarter but still trailed 9-4 at halftime. The Athenas scored seven times in the third to increase their lead to 16-8.
Topete and Morrissey had the hat tricks to lead the Panthers offensively. Senior Emily Allen contributed three assists to go along with a goal. Freshman Anna Hereu made seven saves in goal.
The Panthers continue their early season SCIAC schedule with Cal Lutheran on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
