Women's lacrosse drops SCIAC match to CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team fell 17-10 to visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps as the Panthers returned to SCIAC play.

The Athenas pulled away in the second for a comfortable halftime lead. Chapman came back within two late in the third quarter but CMS pulled away again to claim the SCIAC victory and take sole possession of second place in the standings.

Three players scored a pair of goals to lead the Panthers offensively and Liv Huntley-Robertson caused three turnovers on the defensive end.

Jessica Ricketts put Chapman on the board first when she converted a free position shot less than four minutes into the match. However, the lead lasted just over one minute as CMS bounced back to score the next two goals. Megan Guerra scored on another free position shot but again CMS responded with the next four goal to go up 6-2.

Anna Klose ended the run with her first goal in the second quarter but the Panthers were never able to catch back up. Chapman trailed 7-3 at halftime and, despite a three-goal run brought them back within two at 8-6 in the third, CMS scored the next eight goals and led by as many as 10 goals in the fourth.

Anna Hereu made seven saves in goal and the Panthers were 15-for-19 on clear attempts.

Chapman's SCIAC schedule continues next Wednesday when Chapman heads to Whittier to meet the Poets for the first time this season.
