Seniors get extra 20 minutes of play, Chapman ties Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. - Nine Chapman University senior women's soccer players, playing in the final game of their collegiate careers, got 20 extra minutes on the field on Monday night. They likely would have traded the bonus time for a victory though as the game was left unsettled with the Panthers and visiting Cal Lutheran University playing to a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods at Wilson Field.

Freshman F Kate Lilly scored the game-tying goal for Chapman (8-10-1) in the 78th minute to force overtime. Lilly's initial shot was deflected by Cal Lutheran's reserve GK Brittany Tippet and the ball hit the post softly but stayed in play. Lilly, who finished the regular season with a team-high 10 goals in her rookie season, followed the rebound and tapped it in to even the score at one apiece.

Cal Lutheran (9-6-3) scored first with their only goal in the 31st minute by Marisa Zambetti on a corner kick. The Regals led for most of the game despite being out-shot 23-9 in the game, including 14-3 in the second half alone.

It was ‘Senior Night' for nine Panthers, eight of which played four years at Chapman. Two of those seniors split time in goal as Emily Clark and Madison Coffin combined for a pair of saves.

Chapman finished the regular season with a 5-2-1 record at Wilson Field and unbeaten in four of its final five home matches.
