Another first: Panthers suffer first Division III loss of the year

ORANGE, Calif. - After opening the season with a school record six consecutive victories, the Chapman University women's soccer team has experienced a series of firsts. Its first loss, its first home loss and on Friday night, the Panthers suffered their first loss to a Division III opponent. Visiting Augustana College (Ill.) defeated Chapman 2-0 at Wilson Field, snapping a nine-game unbeaten streak for the Panthers within their division.

Meanwhile, Augustana beefed up its case for a top-25 ranking by improving to 10-0 to start the season. The Vikings earned the shutout despite being out-shot by a 2-to-1 margin (16-8). Only one of Chapman's shots was on goal and that was saved by Augustana GK Kayla Radloff.

The Vikings snapped a scoreless tie in the 34th minute with a goal from Erin Coulson, off a perfectly-placed cross from the right side from Taylor Moesle. Augustana then added an insurance goal in the second half from Ashley Higuchi to make it 2-0 with just under 20 minutes to play.

Chapman (7-3) was unable to capitalize on several loose ball opportunities in front of the Vikings' goal and was shutout for the third time in its past four matches. Sophomore GK Chloe Canta made three saves in goal for Chapman.

The Panthers' previous two losses came against NAIA foes Vanguard and Westmont.
