Panthers fire blanks, get shutout by Cal Lutheran

ORANGE, Calif. - Once again, the Chapman University women's soccer team out-shot its opponent and lost. The Panthers finished the match with a 16-6 shots advantage but fired nothing but blanks, getting shutout for the fourth time this season 1-0 to visiting Cal Lutheran University at Wilson Field on Monday night.

Cal Lutheran (12-4-2) made the most of its shot attempts, scoring on its sixth and final shot, a left-footer from F Brittany Clark, unassisted, with under 7 minutes remaining in the match. The shot was just above and out of the reach of Chapman's sophomore GK Chloe Canta, skimming the crossbar as it sailed into the back of the net. Canta had saved three previous shot attempts from the Regals.

Another late-minute barrage of scoring opportunities turned up empty for Chapman (12-5) which lost for the second time in its past three matches and fell to 6-4 at home this year.

Regals' GK Laura Brain made four saves in goal to earn the shutout.

Each of Chapman's previous three losses has come despite a considerable shot differential in the Panthers' favor. Chapman out-shot Augustana (Ill.) 16-8 and lost 2-0; out-shot La Verne 25-6 and lost 2-1; and then 16-6 in Monday's 1-0 loss to Cal Lutheran.
