Women's soccer turns away Redlands' second half rally

ORANGE, Calif. – Barely warmed up having just subbed into the game, senior M Bridget Thomson scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute to give the Chapman University women's soccer team a 3-2 win over the University of Redlands on Wednesday night at Wilson Field.

Thomson, a starter, came back into the game with 10 minutes remaining. Just over a minute later she put the Panthers ahead for good with a high-arcing shot into the left corner of the net from the middle of the field. Thomson's goal was off an assist by sophomore M Karina Cisneros.

Chapman (4-3) held a 1-0 lead at halftime but the second half began with a total of three goals scored in the first five minutes. Freshman F Camy Jun scored her second goal of the night a minute into the second half to give Chapman a 2-0 lead. Redlands (4-3) then scored a pair of goals over the next two minutes to tie the game. Jun now has three goals on the season.

Junior M Fionna Connolly got Redlands on the board with a header in traffic from right in front of the goal. Junior F Maddy Phillips followed for Redlands to tie the game at 2-2.

Despite getting only seven shots on the night, Chapman kept the pressure on Redlands' sophomore goalie Linzey Smith as all seven shots were on goal. Smith finished with four saves while Panthers' junior goalie Chloe Canta finished with three.
