Missed opportunities cost Chapman in 2-0 loss to Cal Lu

ORANGE, Calif. – In each half, the Chapman University women's soccer team had numerous opportunities to score only to be turned away, as Cal Lutheran scored once in each half to come away with the 2-0 victory on Monday night at Wilson Field.

Cal Lutheran (14-1-1) controlled the ball and tempo for much of the first half but was unable to score until the 29th minute when sophomore M Kristin Cameron turned a Chapman turnover in front of the net into a goal. Chapman's best opportunities to score in the half came on a pair of breakaway shots by freshman F Val Sobol but Cal Lutheran's senior GK Kristin Borzi came up with saves on each occasion. Sobol attempted four shots for the Panthers including two shots on goal.

In the second half, Chapman (8-5) came out and tested new goalie Tina Hedwall attempting 11 shots. The Panthers had had numerous scoring opportunities against Hedwall including one shot off the post and one shot blocked while she was out of net. Less than a minute after the missed scoring opportunity with Hedwall out of net, senior F Brittany Clark scored on a breakaway off an assist from freshman F Kristina Hulse to give Cal Lutheran a 2-0 lead. Clark's goal came in the 66th minute.

Chapman outshot Cal Lutheran 11-6 in the second half and 16-15 for the game. Junior GK Chloe Canta had five saves for the Panthers.
